Arab 'customers' rob goldsmith

3 years, 11 months ago at Kuantan on 23 Jun 2009 reported by Grissom

KUANTAN: Three men and two purdah-clad women, all believed to be Middle Easterners, stole jewellery worth RM50,000 from a goldsmith shop at a shopping complex in Jalan Tun Ismail on Sunday.

They had entered the shop at 4.30pm on the pretext of buying jewellery and were attended to by a salesgirl.

While two of them were chatting with the salesgirl, the others grabbed a tray loaded with jewellery from the showcase.

State Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner T. Narenasagaran said after the foreigners had left the shop, the salesgirl realised the gold bangles and chains were missing.

He said she and her supervisor then lodged a report at the district police headquarters at 6pm. He added that police were still investigating if a security guard was on duty at the shop during the incident and how the suspects managed to escape from the complex with the valuables.
