They sabotage and damage automated teller machines (ATMs) and report the damage to the bank concerned.
The unsuspecting banks then send their technicians to repair the damaged machines not knowing that the culprits are actually armed robbers.
When the technicians arrive and open up the machines to repair them, the robbers, one of whom would be armed with a pistol, would confront them and force them to lie on the ground.
Yesterday, their banking spree came to an end when they were nabbed during a police operation in Batu Caves.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said police arrested two men and seized a pistol used in the robberies.
“We also recovered some RM61,000 believed taken from an ATM in Jalan Segambut Bawah on Sept 10 where the robbers also seized a pump gun belonging to a security guard at the bank.
“We are now looking for another gang member and hope to nab him soon,” he said, adding that the robbers could be involved in several cases in other states as well.
