On October 15, 2009 at about 2.00pm, I went to Maybank, Curve Branch, Mutiara at Damansara, I parked my car at the front left side of the bank and went into Maybank, I went to see customer service officer to collect a cheque book, wrote a cash cheque from the new cheque book just collected for RM823.30 then proceed to counter for a number and immediately the no was called. I proceed to Counter 1 and passed a cash cheque of RM823.30 and cash withdrawal slip of RM68,000 and bank passbook and my I/C. While I was waiting, I proceed to cheque deposit machine to deposit 2 cheques and went back to counter 1. The cashier was ready for RM823.30 and passed it to me. The withdrawal slip and passport were passed to Cash Room. I waited hardly 2 minutes and entered to Cash Room and collected the cash RM68,000/-. I came out from the room without looking back and quickly got into my car and rushed back to my office at The Place, Jalan PJU 8/5G, Damansra Perdana. The distance from Maybank to my office is less than 1 KM. When I about to reach my office, I called Building Maintenace Staff whether he can manually allow me to enter into the private car park (because I misplaced my car park pass that morning). He was not available, in my mind I said then I go for my lunch first. But immediately I changed my mind that I am having substantial cash with me and better go to Hong Leong Bank which is located at the downstair of my office. When I reached Jln PJU 8/5G at the front of Hong Leong, there was 1 car trying to come out from the parking lot, I waited and entered into the parking lot. The movement I parked, a man about 5'4" broad face quite dark complexion shouted at me and tyre puncture. Without relising that the cash in my handbag on the passenger seat, I opend the door and turn to look at my left side tyre. This man trying to stop me and talk to me, I ignored him and immediately i remember my handbag and found missing from my car. Another man picked out a sun glass on the road and shown me. I ignor him. At the point of time and I also did not able shout for help. I made enquiry from the fruit stall lady opposite side of the road, she confirmed that she saw a man holding tight at his chest and ran across the street and entered into a Waja car.

I took my car to nearly mechanic and the mechanic confirmed that based on the condition of punctured tyre and it must be damaged my tyre earlier at Maybank. I reported my case with the Mutiara Police station that afternoon.

On the next day, I requested the branch manager to allow to see the recording tape of previous day of my withdrawal. To my surprise, I saw there was a man about 5' 8" with a cap on his head, hardly can see his face sitting in the banking hall just holding a piece of paper got up and followed me at the back when I came out from the Cash Room.

Till today I still have the following doubts. a) How can the bank allow the man to put on his cap and hardly can see his face. b) The images of CCTV recodingly is very poor quality. c) In this incident, I suspected there is a possible tip off from the bank as in such a short span of time that they able to target on me.

I have 2 wishes, a) I hope you are more careful if you need to do a cash withdrawal from the bank and try to avoide it, better get someone to guard your car as well & b) a dream hope, each reader can contribute RM1 to my losses.

Hi Yap,

I am sad to hear you lost such large amount of money at The Curve Maybank. I too had quite a similar experience with that branch and I will never ever collect cash from that branch in my life.

Some time in 2007, I withdraw cash RM20,000 from this branch and immediately leaving this branch, I will followed by a silver C-class merc. I was stopped at the traffic light junction and 4 men alighted from the car, punctured my left tyre, smashed both side of my car window into pieces and then took away my car keys. All these happened within 10 seconds, you'll never have enough time to comprehend what is happening and start to take action, I was so stunned when all these happened.

Because as soon as I entered my car, I hid the cash under my seat and they could not find it and then proceed to threaten me with a long sharp edged knife and then I had to take it out and give it to them.

Upon reflecting what happened to me, unless it was an insider maybank employee who informed the robbers, who would have guess and be so daring to hit on me. I never flashed the cash when I walked out of the branch and yet the robbers are so certain there is cash with me. I don't think it was the robbers lucky day. Someone must have informed them and the most I suspect is the person/guard who is monitoring the CCTV of the whole branch.

Lesson learned is that never withdraw more than RM1000 at ATM or do cash withdrawal. Because you don't know who is watching you and may put you and your family lives in danger. Always withdraw with banker's cheque.
