Boy escapes kidnap bid

3 years, 4 months ago at Bahau on 13 Jan 2010 reported by Grissom

BAHAU: Quick thinking by a Year Three pupil prevented him from ending up as a kidnap victim in Kampung Serting Ulu in Batu Kikir, near here. The boy opened the car door and jumped out as the suspect was about to get into the driver's seat.

He ran towards his house for help during the incident at 2pm on Monday.

Jempol police chief Superintendent Mohd Sabri Muhamad said the victim and his 12-year-old sister were on their way home after going to a shop nearby when a Proton Saga stopped nearby.

"The driver got out and rushed towards them before pushing the boy into the front passenger seat," he said.

He added that the boy's sister ran off when she saw her brother being taken. "He grabbed the boy, put him in the front seat and while the suspect walked towards the driver's side, the boy opened the door and ran.

"Seeing this, the suspect panicked and drove away," said Sabri.

The victim, accompanied by his parents, then lodged a report at the Jempol police station.

Police believe the suspect was working alone.

Sabri urged members of the public with information on the case to contact the nearest police station immediately.
