A 23-year-old security guard who started work three days ago was shot dead in a robbery at the junction near University Malaya Medical Centre here.
The guard, name withheld by police, was seated in the passenger seat with two colleagues in a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck which stopped at the junction at 10.35am Monday.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said the robbers on two motorcycles stopped on either side of the truck.
One of the robbers asked the guard to open the door and when he refused, shot twice at the windscreen hitting the guard in the abdomen.
"The robber opened the car door and grabbed an orange bag containing RM170,000 before speeding off," ACP Wan Abdul Bari told reporters.
