House broken into, laptop and jewelery stolen

My parents left the house at about 5:30pm for dinner, and returned at 9:30pm only to discover that their house have been ransacked. My dad lost his laptop and my mom lost some of her jewelery. It seems that the burglars accessed the house thru the back kitchen door, by prying the grill, and picking the lock. Called the USJ Police Station, and they sent a patrol car within 10 minutes.
