Lorry driver dies after dawn attack

A lorry driver was beaten to death by a group of men armed with sticks and stones in a fight here.

V. Mogandesh, 28, died from injuries to his head and body in the attack at 4am in Karak yesterday.

Nine suspects had been detained to help in investigations, said acting OCPD Deputy Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor.

Initial investigations revealed that the group attacked the victim after he had arrived at a restaurant in a car.

The car windows were smashed while both doors were pried open by the group.

The men fled the scene when they saw the victim lying motionless after the assault, said DSP Mohamad Mansor.

Police arrested four men in their 20s about 2km from the scene at about 5.30am.

Another three men were picked up while getting treatment for injuries to their legs, heads and arms at Hospital Bentong.

The last two suspects were arrested in the town at about 7.30am.
