3 years, 6 months ago at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur on 13 Dec 2009 reported by Grissom

KUALA LUMPUR: A police constable hurt his left hand on Saturday when a Mat Rempit crashed into him at a roadblock at Dataran Merdeka.

City police Narcotics Department chief Assistant Commissioner Kang Chez Chiang, who led the operation, said the motorcyclist and pillion rider fled after the incident but were arrested in Brickfields, 2km away.

"The motorcyclist did not have a licence and the machine's road tax had expired. He and the pillion rider live in Negri Sembilan and they had come here for illegal racing."

The four-hour operation, which began at midnight, also involved traffic police and the dog unit.

It was aimed at preventing crimes.

Some 450 vehicles were checked and 90 summonses issued to vehicle owners for various traffic offences.

Six of the 80 motorcyclists and pillion riders checked tested positive for drugs. -- Bernama
