Mother strangles newborn baby

2 months, 3 weeks ago at Seremban on 17 Dec 2009 reported by Grissom

SEREMBAN: A woman in her 20s was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly strangling her newborn baby to stop him from crying and drawing attention to her.

The unmarried woman was believed to have given birth to the boy in the toilet of her house in Labu a week ago and then strangled him, before burying him behind her family home.

However, when her boy-friend came to know about it, he lodged a report with the Nilai police station on Tuesday.

A police team dispatched to the house failed to find the baby's body. They questioned the woman and asked her to go for a medical test at the Seremban Hospital, which she refused.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said police requested help from neighbours and launched another search for the body.

"After several hours, villagers found a bundle wrapped in cloth behind the house, which turned out to be the body." The woman was then detained.
