KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcyclist died and his wife was seriously injured when attacked by snatch thieves in Cheras yesterday.
Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Amir Mohd Hashim said in the 3.30pm incident, the couple were heading from Jaya Jusco Taman Maluri towards Pandan Jaya.
"The couple, both 34, had just done some shopping and were on their way to work at a hotel in the city centre.
"At Jalan Perkasa 2, two men on a Yamaha LC 135 motorcycle passed next to them and one of the men grabbed the woman's necklace. Then, he tried to grab the woman's handbag but was unsuccessful."
Abdul Rahman Kaladin lost control of the bike, which crashed into a wall by the roadside.
Rahman died on the spot from head injuries while his wife, whose name has been withheld by police, sustained injuries.
Amir said several motorcyclists who witnessed the incident chased after the suspects but to no avail.
He said Rahman's body was sent to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre while his wife was admitted to Kuala Lum-pur Hospital.
He urged those who witnessed the incident to contact the police.
