KUALA TERENGGANU: A 22-year-old sales assistant of a goldsmith shop in Jalan Banggol here learned the hard way never to judge a book by its cover.
Sharifah Ibrahim was approached by a man while she was at the outlet alone at about 11am Wednesday. He sweet-talked her and asked whether she could help him a select a gold ornament as a gift for his daughter.
βI obliged as he was very courteous,β she said, adding that the man then asked if he could get inside to take a closer look at the jewellery display.
βHe then shoved me aside and grabbed the keys of the showcase where the gold items were exhibited,β she said, adding that the man took out a penknife and threatened to harm her if she shouted.
As the terrified woman was on the floor, the man escaped with jewellery worth RM250,000.
