Sweet-talker flees with gems worth RM250,000

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 22-year-old sales assistant of a goldsmith shop in Jalan Banggol here learned the hard way never to judge a book by its cover.

Sharifah Ibrahim was approached by a man while she was at the outlet alone at about 11am Wednesday. He sweet-talked her and asked whether she could help him a select a gold ornament as a gift for his daughter.

β€œI obliged as he was very courteous,” she said, adding that the man then asked if he could get inside to take a closer look at the jewellery display.

β€œHe then shoved me aside and grabbed the keys of the showcase where the gold items were exhibited,” she said, adding that the man took out a penknife and threatened to harm her if she shouted.

As the terrified woman was on the floor, the man escaped with jewellery worth RM250,000.
