Woman killed by boyfriend

4 years ago at Taman Perak, Kulim on 18 May 2009 reported by Grissom

KULIM: A heated argument, believed to be triggered by jealousy, ended on a tragic note when a 22-year-old woman allegedly died at the hands of her boyfriend in Taman Perak here yesterday.

Nurbahirah Ishak, an electrical engineering graduate from Politeknik Tunku Sultanah Bahiyah here, died while being taken to the Kulim Hospital after the 10am incident. The second child in a family of five, she died from multiple stab wounds on her body and head.

The drama unfolded when her 26-year-old boyfriend came to the house while Nurbahirah was alone. Her mother, Sopiah Talib, 40, was away at work while Nurbahirah's other siblings were in school at the time. It is learnt that Nurbahirah had broken off with the man recently.

Neighbours claimed they heard the couple arguing and sensed something amiss when there was silence minutes later. Kulim police chief Superintendent Ghuzlan Salleh said one of the neighbours then contacted the police. He said a police team rushed to the scene and entered the house with the help of a neighbour.

"They found the man soaked in blood in the living hall. He appeared to be in shock after seeing the policemen and the neighbours." He said Nurbahirah was found unconscious in a pool of blood inside her bedroom.

Ghuzlan said police retrieved a knife believed to be the murder weapon from the man.
